Dr. Zarwell lights up our office. She is equally caring as she is skilled in eye care. We love the passion she brings to our team and how faithfully she serves her patients.
She says she enjoys being an optometrist because, "it allows me to help people see better and feel better, which in turn, allows them to function at their highest level at home and at work."
Dr. Zarwell graduated with a B.S. in Biology from Allegheny College, Meadville, PA and went on to earn her Doctor of Optometry from the Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago, IL. She completed her residency in cornea and contact lens at the University of Missouri-St. Louis.
Her particular eye care passions are fitting contact lenses and working with patient's to meet their vision goals. She also has a deep interest and expertise in eye health as it relates to the patient's systematic health. Patients with diabetes, hypertension and other systematic diseases require special instruction on how to keep their eyes healthy, a topic Dr. Zarwell is well-versed in and enjoys teaching.
She says there are two cases she will always remember. Both patients' eye symptoms were what brought them into the office, but in the end, other underlying health conditions were the root of their problems. One patient had end-stage kidney failure and the other had increased pressure in the brain. These were truly examples of "the eyes being a window to the rest of the body." It's this type of lifesaving work that Dr. Zarwell is passionate about. Eye care is about more than just your eyes, it's about your overall health.
We are so thankful to have Dr. Zarwell on our team. She books appointments at our Prairie Lakes Office and our Main Street Office. She would love to meet you so if you're in the area, stop by and say hi!
